The external size of the window is quoted and all measurements are displayed as width x length. To illustrate this, let's consider a size quoted as 580x780mm. Here:

The 580mm is the horizontal dimension.

It's important that you leave a 10mm gap all the way around the window when fitting – this is for elements like flashing and insulation. Therefore, you'd need to add 20mm (10mm on each side) to both dimensions for the fitting. Hence:
